Cairns
Personal series, 2023 — Ongoing
'Cairns' are impermanent, human-made, balancing stone structures that are often constructed as a meditative act or in honour of a person or event. Creating them requires focus, skill, patience and, crucially, time. All of which are in short supply, these days.
These images, from a larger ongoing personal series, were created entirely digitally using #Photoshop and #generative #AI, intentionally undermining the central intent of the constructions entirely. Furthermore, I inserted various objects from the every day which can, themselves, interrupt a well-intended moment of pause — mobile phones; television remotes and mundane items from the home or office.
To be human in 2023 is to be pulled in multiple directions at once - work; family, friends; your health all require your attention - and trying to find focus on any of these in the face of the constant distractions of societal issues, the media, apps and the internet is a challenge few are able to meet.
