The album 'Paid Car Park' (PL: 'Parking Płatny') by Tomek 'Kolso' Kolski consists of 10 songs recorded over 11 years (2011—2022). Offering a bird's eye view of rap music, the album paints a vivid picture of the center of Warsaw as observed by Tomek from the balcony on Świętokrzyska Street. The material is musically rich, well produced, and features collaborations with invited musicians.
We associated this album with colors and shapes thrown into a pot, swirling and bubbling over a slow fire. Similar to a stock cube, the essence of the album is rooted in rap music, but it offers a taste of various other flavors. The inspiration from the Gurus' Jazzmatazz series, the funky motifs from French hip-hop of the early 2000s, and the fusion of rap with pop and electronica are palpable. To mirror this blend of styles, our design process involved tossing graphic forms, colors, and typography into the pot, stirring them with a spoon. The album cover is a freeze-frame of this dynamic mix—bold, colorful, cheerful, and optimistic, much like Tomek Kolski's music.
