I was chosen out of our senior class to design the cover and interior layout of The Cypress Dome Literary Magazine after a contest. They loved my story behind the cover, which is based on the natural formation of Cypress Domes. I really appreciated the chance to work on this project because for me it put into perspective how design affects people. Plus rainbows!
“Our magazine takes its name from a natural phenomenon unique to the state of Florida. Cypress domes from in the depressions where the water table is exposed. These formations of pond cypress and black gum trees usually take the shape of near perfect circles, which are referred to as cypress domes because the trees tend to grow taller in the center. Its nutrient-rich environment is home to tree frogs, great crested flycatchers, oak toads, and other numerous animals. The Cypress Dome prides itself in being that canopy, housing the emerging creativity of University of Central Florida students.”

This was the copy that I had read in one of the earlier volumes of The Cypress Dome. I became inspired by the description of the natural formations in the pond cypress. The rings on the cover represent the near perfect circles described and number twenty five. The rings cover the image in a way that shows a full spectrum of colors that can represent multiple feelings and topics in various bodies of work.
