For this assignment, we had to create a book cover of one of three books. I picked the book "De Avond Is Ongemak" (EN: The Discomfort of Evening).
Reference/Style board
For this book, I wanted to create a piece that would give an uncomfortable feeling, but also tell the actual story of the book. Figures that look human, but not completely, and intense staring is what (personally) evokes a feeling of discomfort. Bright reds, yellows and greens are more alarming colours, so I felt like that would help conveying that message.

Colouring
I struggled a lot colouring this piece. I wanted to add all of the colours of the colour palette that I picked but, after getting feedback from my teacher, I realized that it would be best to limit my palette and stick to the blue, yellow and red. I think that the red and yellow still gives off the "alarming" feel against the calming blue background.

For the back, I wanted to show Jas and the hand of her oldest brother on her back. I eventually darkened the entire piece, so the text would show up better.

Typography
I tried out a bunch of fonts that I thought would fit the cover the most. I struggled actually picking one, so I asked some of my classmates what they preffered the most. I then used a different, more readable font for the writer's name and used that same font for the back of the book.
