The Courtyard Story
Crafting a Storyboard for the 'Courtyard Comeback'

Historically, courtyards in spaces were designed to provide areas of commune. They declined in use as developers densify housing.

With rapidly shifting global temperatures, thermo-regulating contemporary courtyards have seen a revival as they also regulate temperatures.

Art direction of the storyboard was inspired by classical artworks from all over the world – ones of which depict people enjoying the outdoors.
Script:

For 2,000 years, courtyard houses have provided natural ventilation and secure outdoor spaces, usable at any time of day. They’ve helped people stay warm and cool without today’s programmable thermostats — courtyard houses just made sense.

Now it is 2016, and courtyards are ready for a renaissance. They make even more sense in an urban environment.

And we still love it for the same reasons — and then some. Fancy an outdoor cinema? Or growing your own ingredients? Courtyards are here for a comeback, and from the looks of it, they’re here to stay.
The 'Courtyard Comeback' was a short film concept developed in 2016. The project remains in the conceptual phase and was not produced.

Images and artworks from the storyboard have been taken from online sources and modified for internal creative use.
