HDB Advent Calendar

A Hor-ly Jo-leh Christmas Advent Calendar
Packaging Design | Illustration
Rationale: I created an advent calendar packaging mockup for my Brand Experience module. We were tasked to create a packaging design for any Singaporean merchandise we wanted. I created an advent calendar consisting of Singaporean-themed trinkets like trinket trays, Kueh keychains, pins and so on. For the packaging, I chose to create an HDB block as I find that HDBs are unique to Singapore, encompass a lot of history and are unlike typical places that tourists visit, so I wanted to share the experience with them through this advent calendar that they could bring back to their country.
Process: I first began by creating a mood board consisting of the colours red and green and cute illustrations to set the tone for my design. I then created a 3D model on Adobe Dimensions of the advent calendar as we were required to superimpose our designs to create a digital mockup. While it was a challenge at the start as I was not familiar with the software, I eventually got used to it after a few hours and managed to create my advent calendar mockup.

As the target audience was tourists, I had to consider what size I wanted the advent calendar to be so that it would be portable enough for a tourist (target audience) which led me to choose dimensions similar to a shoe box (35 x 15 x 15cm) as shoes are common things that people buy overseas.
Things I felt were unique to HDBs and needed to be included were the tiled tables at void decks, stray cats, racial harmony and Karang Gunis. Hence, I did some secondary research and found as many reference images as I could to create an accurate HDB experience.
