51st Molodist | Brand Identity Design | Film Festival

The Kyiv International Film Festival Molodist, with over five decades of history, remains a vital platform for filmmakers of all stripes. During its 51st edition, even in the shadow of a war, the festival continued thanks to support from the President's Office. We joined forces with artist Masha Dmitrowa to revamp the festival's identity.

Amidst the turbulent backdrop of potential conflict, we navigated away from the hackneyed symbols of war and crisis. Instead, we birthed a creative solution: an abstract sculpture set against a checkerboard background, which symbolizes the void and absence. This composition subtly speaks to the enduring essence of culture, interaction, and beauty in the face of uncertainty. Our design emphasizes that, regardless of the background (or circumstances), "Molodist" and culture will persevere.

This thoughtful and symbolic approach is crucial during times of conflict. It avoids inadvertently glorifying war and crisis, focusing on the festival's core message of resilience and continuing cultural vibrancy in a world of uncertainty.

We harnessed the power of abstract shapes and symbolism, ensuring a seamless connection with the previous year's identity. This project, honored with a Red Dot Award in Brand Design, beautifully encapsulates the design's ability to communicate the triumph of culture amid harsh circumstances.

Festival overcame the difficulties of the war. The festival's identity subtly manifests—despite the background, the "Molodist" takes its place.
