PUPPET THEATRE CLUJ NAPOCA-ROMANIA

PUPPET THEATRE CLUJ NAPOCA-ROMANIA

The building is situated in Cluj Napoca,Observatorului Street and the concept begins with three elementary aspects of universal understanding of the theatre itself :
DUALITY / INTERDEPENDENCE /CENTRALISM
Breaking each down ,we are talking about duality in a sense of receptor and receiver of the artistic message. In this particular case performers and children. They have a particular relationship one beeing formal and the other informal. These aspects are not paradoxal but complement one another in such a manner that takes the performance down to the" street "level.Acknowledging the fact that these two are interdependent of one another ,the ideea of centralism "curves" both space and time towards one boilling point where the spectacle, the people, the material and etheric surroundings create another art representation,a dynamic visual field if you will where the building takes part in the every day street life show.

This project aims to familiarize students with the issues of cultural programs in the performing arts. Exercise aims to analyze and understand the principles underlying the design of buildings bound for the preparation and presentation of shows to the public.
The main challenges of this project were created by sharp slopes of land and inappropriate rising of the neighborhoods. The land has a difference of ~ 13 meters between the east where there is a gas station and the west where there is a supermarket with a rather suburban architecture. Basically we can say that the theater had to impose it's shape & size in order to coexist in it's site.
To achieve this gradual effect we placed a two story parking garage in the basement, so that the theater is perceived over the gas station and manages to implement it's new shape in it's new surroundings.
Another feature of this building was adding a new creative field to the house within it, besides the main function of theater - the Children's Creative Center, which would become a polarizing element of the theater for children in the city. The Center for creative spaces are organized around a central atrium that develops over the height of the tower, filled with workshop areas and creative spaces.
In terms of interior design I tried to borrow some elements from contemporary architecture.
