What is the secret to the effectiveness of natural cosmetics made from ocean ingredients? If 80% of the ocean is still unexplored, then it could contain anything! 

For example, the water depths can hide flowers that are still unknown to scientists. Incredibly beautiful, they give beauty to everything that touches them... We invite you to an ocean expedition to the waters of LaMarine.

La Marine is a brand of natural, anti-aging cosmetics with ocean ingredients, founded by two business partners from the Ukrainian city — Odesa. They approached us with the goal of creating a natural cosmetics brand for women aged 35+, which would be sold on international platforms in the United States and Europe. 

LaMarine cosmetics made from ocean ingredients is an example of a complex project where we went a long way with 
the client: from developing a product and brand strategy, identity, packaging, and website to designing communication and 
sales channels.

- Brand strategists developed the concept, naming, brand platform, and created brand characters (fantastic ingredients).
- The graphic design team defined the ocean flower metaphor and developed all the elements of the identity and packaging.
- The web design team realized the idea of identity through interactivity and storytelling.
Today in the case study, we will analyze in detail the stage of website creation

Design goals

As part of the cooperation with LaMarine, the League Design Agency team has identified 5 main tasks for itself:

1. To convey the essence of the brand and the atmosphere of the ocean and the naturalness of rare cosmetics ingredients.
2. Create the impression of a premium brand and a sense of great value for money.
3. To differentiate yourself from competitors on Amazon, as well as premium brands that use marine/oceanic themes in brand positioning or have marine ingredients in their products.
4. Create a flexible visual system that can be easily adapted to new products 
5. Show the ingredients-heroes of the line. Because they are the main USP of the product and an advantage over competitors.

As part of the site, our goal was to create an online experience where we could explore how La Marine cosmetics are created and see the unique ocean ingredients with our own eyes. This is not an ordinary landing page, e-commerce, or cosmetics website. This is a journey website where the user is immersed in the world of La Marine. 





Concept

We immediately realized that the site would be radically different from the competition. After analyzing the websites of cosmetics, fashion, and beauty brands, we realized the industry standard.  

Based on the research, we formed the positioning of our website — we are a young but technologically advanced brand with a unique formula and rare ocean ingredients that are very difficult to obtain.

The fact that the ocean remains the least explored place on the planet gave us a wide scope for creativity.






Design Solutions

Each site page is designed using:
- ocean metaphors;
- the idea of immersion;
- the demonstration of ingredients (fantastic ocean flowers) and the product line.


The effect of immersion under the water column allows the user to explore cosmetics at the molecular level and find rare flowers.  Their stem is a sponge, their bud is a jellyfish, and their stamens are pearls.





3D technologies

To convey the metaphor of molecules, we used webGL technology. It allows you to create three-dimensional graphics in a browser. We demonstrate the key ingredients through 3D models of a coral reef.

Interactive

With a scroll on the website, we can dive into the depths, and the products of the La Marine collection are revealed to us. These products are characterized not by a simple smooth hover effect, but rather by the feeling that they seem to float up to the user's cursor.

As part of the project, we managed to convey the atmosphere of the ocean and the naturalness of rare cosmetics ingredients, to abstract from competitors and convey the premium nature of the brand.

Most importantly, the coordinated work of all teams helped us create a unique brand from scratch and achieve all our goals with the help of identity, packaging, and website.
