WaveGuide Formμla™

This is a project of ambition. It tracks our relationship with a Massachusetts start-up called WaveGuide Corporation and their ground-breaking idea to liberate nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) chemical analysis from the laboratory.

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is an information-rich, non-destructive analytical technique. Today, NMR is extensively used in medicine in the form of magnetic resonance imaging. NMR is also used industrially mainly for routine analysis of chemicals. But the NMR instruments are expensive and typically required to be used in Ph.D staffed laboratories.

WaveGuide Formμla™ leverages the same technology as existing NMR machines. The WaveGuide difference is covered by its patents both granted and pending with its micro-scale and customizable apps facilitating ease of use.

Never before has one little magnet carried so much power.
WaveGuide Formµla™ represents true innovation because - by decreasing the NMR magnet size and cost by an order of magnitude - it brings the lab into the field and precise scientific methods to people that could not access it before.

Mobility

At a fraction of the size of traditional NMR systems, it goes just about anywhere without sacrificing any analytical sensitivity or specificity. Less than a tenth of the cost and a fraction of the size of traditional NMR systems, it quickly detects many infectious diseases.
The device is totally portable and can be plugged in or used with its own battery for several hours.
This is a sensitive, precision device that will be used in challenging environments. It has to be robust and inspire confidence while conveying its sensitivity and the high technology it contains.
The metallic finish of the vertical column, as well as the crispness of the horizontal screen component, emphasize precision and the need for thoughtful and careful manipulation of the device.
An application agnostic design

The “phone-like” interaction design is simple to be known from most of the users, from any field. The colors are neutral to match any application, field, or market.
The angle of the screen has been optimized to be visible in a maximum of different lighting situations and user postures.
A lab in the field

Cartridges are customizable and can be disposable or reusable with disposable glass tubes to address any requirements driven by the field, the type of environment or the nature of the sample.
Connectivity for better decisions

The cellular connectivity embedded in the device provides an organization the power to aggregate and visualize
trends with regards their application. From identifying counterfeit hubs to tracking the spread of a virus, the
system can prove invaluable to make informed decisions globally.

Simple interaction points, simple use steps

WaveGuide Formµla™ simplifies workflows and is time-saving. Now, the end-user can have, in-field, accurate and immediate results to make better and earlier decisions about the next steps, tasks, tests they should perform.

With little to no sample preparation, end-users can perform tests more safely than before, without sacrificing analytical sensitivity or specificity. The device prompts users on the next steps, where to put the sample, and where to enter and receive the data.
