Stylo Barber Shop, Malaysia
-student work, 2012-
Founded in 1937, Stylo is the oldest barber shop in Malaysia. The design direction of this project is to re-position Stylo in the industry, as a traditional low-cost Indian Men's barber shop not only for regular customers, but also for the young generation. Old wood best to burn, old wine to drink, the biggest challenge of this project is to inject modern styling yet at the same time preserve the historical essence of Stylo.
Inspired by barber pole, Stylo logo is designed in stripes, with a tweak. It represents the generation gap between the old and young, where the two striking colors denote young and modern. Stylo logo also highlights the essence of Malaysia-ness by its polyglot typeset.
