A Letter To My Father, is a text-audio-visual experiment that explores social transformations within the structure of families. It takes us through a journey of memories, intimate emotions, and conflicts that manifest themselves in written words. Through the form of letters, overlapped with visual and audible interpretations of their content, we experiment with fragments of memories trying to see through our own
complexities. The process of writing the letters in itself was the trigger of
transformation within this multilayered relationship that reveals insights on cultural, social and personal characteristics within two different countries. We invite the audience to keep notice of their personal interpretations of their own families, also in the form of written words.
In a week-long workshop in Cairo, observations were documented within the four family structures using selected media formats. Fragments of text from emails, personal notes, memory - for example, about the changing perception of one's family, were used to help write the letters. Video, sound and text was then created as a form of independent, artistic and ethnographic interpretation. We attempted to approach in the process, our cultural peculiarities, identities, and thus the issue of social transformation in a manner that is more playful than serious.

A prototype of the work was presented in a workshop discussion at Arte Wella Art Center in Cairo. While the finished work was presented in the Spuren 2.0 at E-Werk Freiburg to a bigger crowd. The work results were also presented at the DAAD branch office in Cairo, as part of an exhibition.
