Lighting Design - Stainless Steel Lamps

Stainless Steel Reflections

In architecture and design the ability to express relies on the effect and presence of light. The bright light emphasizes contrasts, darkens the shadows and brightens the lighted areas. The contrast induces a state of tension between mass (material) and shadow (immaterial), gives volumes a way to highlight themselves in relation to other adjacent volumes.

The mirror surfaces cease to be just simple objects that reflect the image, often a gateway to other dimensions and parallel worlds. Although, only by the end of the twentieth century, mirrors began to appear as a ubiquitous material in art, and became the leather of modern urban architecture.

From a closer look, the light design invites the viewers to discover new visions of space and placement and to observe themselves in the reflective material. Looking from farther away, golden and silver reflections can be seen in the surrounding environment, changing continuously while any movement is caught in every brightened part. These multifaceted lights (lamps) produce a fragmented view of the light offering a show full of mysterious shadows, reflections and lighting to every environment they will be placed.

Cube Floor Light
This is a 170 cm high floor lamp. The smaller cubes, 56 in number, are more shiny, so they can reflect the light that is placed exactly in the center of the larger cube. The light and shadow effect turned out to be great.

Razorblade Flower Light

This wall fixture was inspired from the Fibonacci sequence that you can find through all nature. I am particularly fond of this one because, even if its shape is pretty simple, in the same time, it looks pretty fierce and rough. The light coming from the lamp gives the impression of movement. It's like the razors are cutting trough the wall.

Sphere Table Light

A sphere made from stainless steel sheets that have been cut with laser and assembled together with argon welding.

Cascade Caro Floor Light

The finishes of the stainless steel sheets are similar to that of a mirror surface offering a discreet charming light or a game of magical sparks, a flight of fireflies.
