Roman Pearson's profile

Young Australians and Community Installations

A few weeks ago I had the privilege to connect with fellow students studying in the various fields of design offered at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) as part of a three day design intensive where we were offered the opportunity to propose a design solution for Orange Sky Australia to raise more awareness around the struggles of young Australians and to generate more engagement from this demographic.

During the three day design intensive my colleagues: Bridget Bower, Ezra Singh, Jared Tenorio and Shahad Matti, shared their different perspectives from their fields of Industrial Design and Architecture. This experience enhanced my understanding and encouraged me to broaden my own perception and perspective of what it means to be a designer.

I’d like to offer a thank you to the wonderful project leads Valeria Macalupu, Dannielle Tarlinton, Aidan Ryan, Ghazeleh Sepahpour, as well as Amy Crow, who guided us and gave insightful feedback to improve and enhance our solution. Additionally, a huge thank you to the Orange Sky representatives who gave their time to answer all of our questions as well as listen and give feedback on our final design solution.

Engaging in this experience was fantastic and it was so inspiring to see all of the pitches from the other teams. A final thank you to Claire Brophy the unit coordinator and QUT for the opportunity to participate in this event.
