Unexistent | Interactive Transmedia Narrative

The title chosen for the project “Unexistent: user not found” refers to the people whose identity is denied. Unable to express themselves, they are excluded from society, having no rights and no voice.

The Narrative Concept: A transmedia mystery puzzle game, to incite reflection on the practical consequences of not having access to a legal identity.

Throughout the story, the player has to complete the game by looking for clues in different media and solving riddles, while in the shoes of one of the main characters. The media are both analogic and digital, including a notebook, a website and an AR tool.
Synopsis: Sixteen years ago the government of Opal City implemented a digital software named eGO System that tracks all its citizen’s legal data and identities in order to facilitate the administration and bureaucracy of the city.

Now people live happy ordinary lives thanks to the eGO System, however,
a group of people from the suburbs of Opal City starts taking note of strange manifestations. Some “possessed” objects provoke strong deja-vù for those who touch them, sparking memory flashes of unknown people they find familiar, but they can’t really place or remember.

Sawyer, a 26 years old woman, is the founder of the Deja-Vù Society, and is investigating on those objects. She and her friend Jay Doe started digging deeper into the government and the eGO System looking for clues, but just after receiving a mysterious package with information about a supposed brother of Sawyer’s who disappeared, Jay goes missing too, leaving only her personal notebook behind. Now Sawyer is in need of assistance and only the player, in the role of Francisco (Cisco) Reyes, an old friend and classmate of her, can help her.

With the envelope she sent, the player has all the information and clues they need to solve the mistery and ultimately find Jay.
