Fun Kitchen App & Website

This project was made during the Google UX Design Cerfiticate course in 2021.
Project 3: Fun Kitchen App and Website

This is my third project in the Google UX Design Certificate, and the task was to “Design a service to help kids learn how to cook healthy food”. So, based on this description, I decided to create an app with multiple healthy recipes with video tutorials. To engage the kids to learn more, I've added a gameficated mechanic so that the participants can upload photos of the dishes they cooked to earn points, and the chefs with most points are presented in a monthly leaderboard.
Target user

Parents who want to teach their kids how to cook and develop more interest in healthy food. Also kids who already have interest in cooking and want to learn how.
Research conducted and the research findings

The research done with users gave me enough information to build user personas, like Martha, for example. Martha is a concerned parent, who lives with her husband Pablo, and their son Felipe. The couple are worried about Felipe's alimentary habits, and want him to develop an interest in eating healthy food. A good way to do this would be cooking while engaging Felipe in the process, so the family can have a fun time together and teach their son how to cook at the same time.
So, what’s the problem?

The main problem I found was how to engage the kids in the cooking lessons, so I researched some gamification methods and included a point and leaderboard mechanic into the project.
Insights learned

In the first research, we discovered some problems the general user might have while using the App, like finding some features and buttons. On a second research, the parents suggested some inclusions in the app to make the app safer. For example, during the registration process, the app now demands parent information, and asks the child to choose an adult supervisor. This is fundamental because the kid could try to cook alone, and cooking can be dangerous due to the use of stoves and cutting tools. The app also displays various messages alerting the child to ask for adult help before cooking.
UI Ideation: sketches and wireframes

This is how I did my ideation process, from wireframes to a lo-fi prototype, mockup and finally hi-fi prototype.
Wireframes

This is a simple version to organize the website information, like the recipe list and menu categories.
User Testing Results

To organize the testing results, i made an affinity diagram to gather common themes, which were used to create insights to upgrade the prototype.
Mockup

This is where the design really takes form. You can see the image, colors and logo in this version.
Responsive Website

To accompany the app, I created a responsive website with some critical information about the app.
Hi-Fi Prototype
Conclusion

Learned a lot from this project, went through all steps in the UX design process. Like user research, ideating, prototyping and running usability studies.

Thank You!
