Animal Shelter Website

This project was made during the Google UX Design Cerfiticate course in 2021.
Project 2: Animal Shelter Website

This is my second project in the Google UX Design Certificate, and the task was to “Design a pet adoption flow for an animal shelter”. So, based on this description, my website has the complete flow for pet adoption, including an animal list, profile and all information a person looking for an animal friend might need.
Target user

Animal lovers of all genders and backgrounds who want to know all information needed before adopting an animal.
Research conducted and the research findings

The research done with users gave me enough information to build user personas, like Flavia, for example. Flavia is an animal lover, and an animal cause supporter who lives in a small apartment with her wife. They want to adopt a pet who fits into the apartment, but many shelters do not provide all information needed about the pets. Flavia wants detailed information of every pet available, so she can decide which one to choose.
So, what’s the problem?

The main problem found was the lack of critical information. So I focused on creating a profile page for each animal with detailed info.
Insights learned

In the first research, we discovered some problems the general user might have while using the website. On a second research, I discovered some problems that people who work in the shelters had. Some shelters have a high rate of animal return because adopters are usually not prepared to handle all obligations a pet demands. Based on that info, I had an insight to include a small interview in the form of short questions, so the shelter gets to know if the person is prepared to adopt the animal.
UI Ideation: sketches and wireframes

This is how I did my ideation process, from wireframes to a lo-fi prototype, mockup and finally hi-fi prototype.
Wireframe

I decided to use a single image layout for the homepage. The objective is to use a big emotional image to inspire the user to adopt an animal.
Mockup

This is where the design really takes form. You can see the image, colors and logo in this version.
Hi-Fi Prototype
Conclusion

Learned a lot from this project, went through all steps in the UX design process. Like user research, ideating, prototyping and running usability studies.

Thank You!
