Blue After Three

Description...

This was a very fun, but simple project. I wanted the shadow to reflect more that just its presence, but also the richness of the juice contained in the bottle. The shadow also represents time. The end of the day. The start to the evening or the weekend. It's just after 3:00 pm somewhere.

How do you see it? Share your thoughts.

How I Got the Shot...

I used one Paul C. Buff Einstein e640 Strobe, with a 7" reflector, camera left and just behind the bottle creating the harsh shadow. The glow of the juice in the shadow came naturally - no gimmicks.

In addition to the one strobe, I used gold reflective cards, and white cards bounce cards to help highlight the labels and logos giving them a larger presence. I utilized a black card to help sharpen the bottles edges. The highlighting of the juice proved to be a bit of a task being the shape of the bottle and the angle the bottle is positioned in to the camera. I had to be very careful to not lose the bottles blue edges pushing gold light through the bottle. But I got it.
Retouching...

Always celebrate your retoucher. Alina is super talented and loves a challenge. This image was created using 12 different images, and Alina neatly composited them all into one. I can't thank her enough for the support and talent she blesses my work with.
