Star-Crossed Lovers

Referencing Slow Design’s principle ‘reflect’ and 'reveal', Star-crossed Lovers is a spatial intervention that probes the attitudes toward the intoxication with speed, productivity and its resultant. A poem is written surrounding the concept of star-crossed lovers signifying the relationship between an individual with his or her surroundings (the staircase in LASALLE Winstedt Campus) that is impeded by the fast-paced lifestyle. This is a reflection of the society that is always chasing the new and is slowly alienating from their surrounding such that familiar things are gradually becoming transparent.

Written in the point of view of the staircase and in a pensive tone, a poem along with a question was penned down after observation at Winstedt. These words are designed to represent faint whispers from the staircase. It became more interesting when users of the space interacts with the artwork and leave behind a response on the facing wall, “I’m here”.

A collaboration with Beverley Ongah.
