The ACO, FIA, and IMSA had conformed Convergence between the two series from 2021 onwards, and hyped up from the 2023 season this year of multiple WEC Hypercars entering the series. Toyota, in a bid to test the waters with series rules, BOP between them and the other GTP cars, and to gain even more experience, the Factory team run the Roar at Daytona with a car like this.

For the test, they draft in Sebastian Buemi, Ryo Hirakawa and Brendon Hartley. The latter has raced in IMSA for years, and with many diifferent teams and circuits, so that knowledge is invaluable for any future outings.
