Winmao is a sketch proposal for a tourism building located in Melaka (Malacca), Malaysia. The main idea was to come up with an iconic building whose concept is based upon the rich blend of cultures that run rampant through Melaka (Malacca).
Early sketches attempted to show a form of organized chaos within the building, with each section representing a different culture that can be found in Melaka (Malacca). Each would have its own unique style that would not only differ but still would complement the other styles within the building.
The main inspiration for the building came from observing the movements of a flag fluttering in the wind. The beautiful dynamism within its ever oscillating figure complemented the landscape of Melaka (Malacca) and her ever-changing but still uniquely recognizable form.
Some of the things that would help push the building towards being recognized as an iconic structure (a request given to him by his client) would be its placement. Situated next to the scenic Melaka river, the building would be seen by both locals and tourists alike as they enjoyed popular river cruises and walk across bridges that connect one side of the city to another.
In conclusion, the Winmao Tourism Mart is a building of grace and elegance, one that symbolizes the every changing dynamic culture of Melaka (Malacca). A building that not only embodies the ideals of its designer, but conveys the love and perception that the Melakan people hold for foreigners who wish to experience the exquisite beauty that Melaka has to offer.
