When I Was Little

"When I was little, my pa used to bring me to eat satay at lau pa sat. We ate and gnawed through sticks of chicken satay dripping with curry sauce. When I was little, me and my gang of friends were the eraser fighting champions. My pencil case was rich with little country erasers. When i was little,  I would watch my ah ma make the delicious ang ku kueh which looked like little red tortoises for Chinese New Year. I would sneak into the kitchen in the middle of the night just to eat one..."

When I Was Little is a collaborative project for Singapore Memory Project (SMP) which intends to bring back the memories of Singapore's food, games and places in the 1980s. The 1980s in Singapore was the golden period where the housing estates and places were built to create a unique culture we know in Singapore today. It is important to remember our roots as Singaporeans, and the little things that help to glue us together as the nation we are known as today.

To commerate the identity of Singapore, we came up with the use of miniature. Miniature models would be the first usage in Singapore, thus this project also being known as 'Singapore's First Miniature Exhibition'. We hope for Singapore to use this concept and make it happen as it is better than to just use photos and videos to convey the past memories. The event shall commence at 2015, which leads up to Singapore's National Day. The concept makes use of the children ABC alphabet song which states a singapore food, game or place for every letter which emphasises on being little. We came up with collaterals to accompany the miniature exhibition. This also hopes to close the gap between the old and the young- the young will get to learn about Singapore 1980s via a crafting book and a memory kit, and the old will get to flip through a resource guide which serves as a nostalgic memorabilia. Below is our showreel for this project. Song used is by Underscore and Cute Electronic music found on soundcloud.com. Video clip at the end of the showreel is hugely inspired by Rocketpanda's Hotel Trip we found on vimeo.
