Dacapo Circus & Varieté is a high stake, high performing circus that exclusively features talented human artists to prevent animal abuse. It distinguishes itself with a level of grandeur surpassing that of typical circuses, showcasing elite performers from various corners of the globe. The "varieté" stands for different acts and workshops they also offer. 

The vision for their logo was to retain the essence of a traditional circus while adding it with a touch of prestige for distinction to "normal" circusses.

I have deliberately formed only a word logo for 2 reasons: When you go to a circus, they usually use a light board to recreate the logo with lots of little light bulbs so that it can be seen from far away. A word-picture-logo would be difficult to recognize with this method. In addition, the logo would be too cluttered. 

My logo was designed so that you can recreate the logo with the light bulbs and the “& Varieté” can be easily recreated with neon tubes. The “Varieté” has an applied line to fill the white space.

The Zebrawood fill font recreates the atmosphere of a circus. With the playful embellishments on the typeface itself and the open and loose form, it also reflects the shape of a circus tent. I wrote the “and Varieté” with the Brush Script. The “Varieté” should look a bit more noble, because Dacapo Circus and Varieté also offers a highly sophisticated program. It thus stands out from normal circuses.

Red is a color that one associates with circus, since circus tents are usually red and white striped. I deliberately chose a deeper red because, although they still represent a traditional circus, they also want to stand out from the crowd with its acts and performances. I chose the turquoise so it could represent the different performances. The blue and green merge into something new, something unique, thus showing the sophisticated portfolio of Dacapo Circus and Varieté.
