Type Type Type Write Write Write Draw Draw Draw

Type Type Type Write Write Write Draw Draw Draw is my hand lettering learning journal that contains the research, practice and final lettering works I produced in the past few months. The most important thing to learn something new is practice, and it’s actually a repetitive process; so I give the journal a name as Type Type Type Write Write Write Draw Draw Draw, which represents the three steps I repeated again and again. After I created the lettering works, I tried to turn those hand-made images into a very digital, computerized style. I pixelized them and gained an interesting contrast between the two different image styles. The final productions were printed on 80gsm, fluorescent pink paper, which showed another beautiful contrast between the paper and B&W images.
On left page, those hand-made letters were applied as index icon on the content page.
Practice of using pens and pencils to make different strokes.
On left page is an imitation work from an old label design; the pixelized image on the right side provides an interesting contrast.
The work on the right page is also an imitation work from old label design.
I kept the grids on the image so people still can see how I located the letters.
By using carpenter pencil, these letters are created with a special texture.
On the left page is an imitation work, and the one on the right page is my own production.
This is the original work on my sketchbook, the letter K was finished with Memphis style pattern inside.
These letters are imitations from a book that contains lots of earlier wood type samples, and I draw them without measuring, so the proportion might not be 100% the same.
Another imitation work from old label design. I quite like the effect of combining copperplate illustration and different typefaces.
Trying to make the visual effect match with the meaning of the word.
This one was originally a colored image, but I turned it into B&W when putting it into the journal.
