2022
The sequel to the GT3 Cup car livery project

The previous livery project I did in 2019 (The Spirit of Motorsport) ended up being a successful one, with good praise and positive feedback. That has lead to me receiving the same commission once again in 2022, when the team wanted a new livery for the new upcoming racing season.

This time however, they wanted to follow the motive of a "tiger," since in the Chinese lunar calendar, the year 2022 was the year of the tiger.

"Year of the Tiger"

Even though it was a brand new design, it was also a reference and a call-back to the previous design from the 2019 season. You can observe the subtle motive of the "cold front and the hot back" repeating itself. The monochrome streaks and stripes of the tigers fur become searing hot as they reach the back, creating this effect where as if the heat of the rear of the car and the engine are ungluing the individual colour channels of the pattern.

Also, one extra detail that I really like are the tiger's eyes on the rear bumper, which are looking back on the tailgating drivers. Car liveries look cool mostly front the front and the sides, but the drivers will be seeing the rear of the car most of the time.

Alternative concept design

Before the black design with the RGB streaks, there was one more alternative concept on a white car.

Initially, there was a concern that creating a full wrap for the car is going to be significantly more expensive. The cup cars are in white colour by default, so there was this looming idea that the car will remain white, with some simple, smaller scale decals added onto the body, which would cut down on the printing and production costs.

It was a very quickly made concept, but looking back at it, I like this one a lot. In fact I would even say I prefer it to the black one.
