Down syndrome - Trisomy 21

Down syndrome
Down syndrome, also known as Trisomy 21, is a genetic disorder. It is a condition that occurs when a person has one extra chromosome. It may be caused by a partial or full extra copy of the chromosome 21.
Down syndrome may be diagnosed during pregnancy with several diagnostic tests. There are two main types of tests - screening and diagnostic.
Screening tests are also called non-invasive tests as for those are used methods based on blood sampling (MS-AFP, Triple Screen, Quad-Screen) or ultrasounds.
Diagnostic tests or invasive tests are employed for the diagnosis of genetic disorders. Those pose some risks for the fetus but their application has greater diagnostic value. Invasive tests adopted for the diagnosis of genetic disorders include chorionic villus sampling, percutaneous umbilical blood sampling, and amniocentesis sampling.
Persons born with Down syndrome can have a life expectancy like most of the population. However, their quality of life can be improved with early adoption of therapy. They can be creative and shape our world despite their disabilities.

Inclusive.
The act of including someone or something as part of a group, list, etc., or a person or thing that is included. Cambridge dictionary.

My former schoolfellow has Down syndrome. When we were children she took care of us,  protected us, gave us great joy. She is very positive and has a special place in my heart. I created this illustration in her honor for Down syndrome awareness day - 2023. She deserves much more. Hopefully this is just one small contribution, and many more will come. No need to mention, they will all be devoted to her. She is such a great inspiration.

Remember.
Remember to love them, to take care of them. Be kind. Include them in your life. Try to embrace diversity, you will learn and understand their potentials. They deserve the whole world.

Dear T., thank you for enriching my life.
