Everything About Nothing

Everythıng About Nothıng Project

Hi, I'm Bircan Mutlu. I was a Turkish long-term Erasmus+ volunteer in Association Link and Agorateca. When I came to Altamura for my project, I explained my idea to my colleagues. I had an idea for a collective art workshops and final exhibition. Then, with this idea, a 5-month workshop process started. We held these events in various places in and around Altamura. A total of 79 people from various countries participated in these events. Countries of the participants; Italy, Germany, France, Greece, Tunisia, Turkey, Albania, Ukraine, Spain, Lithuania, Portugal. Although the majority of the participants were young people, there was no age limit for involvement. Participants produced abstract collages using three simple rules. These rules are; All kind of symbols are forbidden, everything should be abstract. It should be a geometric composition. For the collages, they first made a few sketches and then completed their collages with just colored paper and glue. These collages were of various sizes. I combined all of the collages to create a single work. And everything became one thing. Everything turned about nothing. We held the opening of the exhibition in Agorateca on June 23, 2023. During the exhibition, visitors had the chance to examine this single piece of work and the photographs and sketches of its working process.

MANIFESTO

The aim of this exhibition and workshop is to enable individuals of different cultures and ages to express themselves, through abstract art in a culturally diverse environment. At the same time raising awareness of abstraction and abstract art. The participants went about their work with unlimited freedom with a set of simple rules. They created abstract compositions of various sizes with only colored paper and glue. These works have become products that reflect each individual's perspective, experiences, feelings and cultures. Throughout the exhibition, attendees will understand how these individual works can stand side by side in harmony with another person's work. In addition, participants and viewers will see how these individual products can be part of a large plot and harmoniously coexist in a single composition. Participants and spectators alike will find that zero to one, one to all, minority to majority.
