In the Auvergne, at the top of a Cantalien plateau, an old “buron”, the former home of cheese-making shepherds, overlooks the heights. The aim of this project was to re-energize this abandoned building into a working space for the local community of cheese makers. The buron is extended to include living facilities: Three housing units accommodate craftsmen as well as passing hikers.
Les Inquérades conserves the Cantalien heritage by connecting the community of cheese makers and sharing this know-how with hikers.

The three houses are connected by covered passages made up of pivoting aluminium panels.
The location of the houses in relation to the buron creates a central plaza with convivial terraces and access walkways.
The grey Auvergne stone of the existing buron contrasts with the aluminium of the passageways, the glass gable and the burnt wood shingles that clad the facades and the roofs of the housing units.
