'Norwegian Wood' Book cover

This is a design for a personal project of the book 'Norwegian Wood' (1987) by Haruki Murakami. The novel is a poignant coming-of-age tale set in 1960s Tokyo, following Toru Watanabe's emotional journey as he navigates love and loss. Amidst a backdrop of societal changes, Murakami's mesmerizing prose explores themes of love's complexities and the haunting impact of loss, leaving readers with a powerful meditation on self-discovery and the transience of life's connections.

My design is inspired by the character called 'Midori', a vivacious and outgoing fellow student whom the protagonist meets at university. She's a face of the post-war Japanese youth that is suffering from eastern influence.

The visual elements of the cover design intend to refer to the 60's vibrant culture, like the prolific music scene and the Pop Art movement.
