Our main objective was to re-design a mechanical pasta maker to align with the increasingly popular and modern lifestyle focused on health, self-craftsmanship, and communal cooking. This lifestyle transformation has significantly influenced how people cook, eat, and celebrate food, especially in contemporary, open kitchens surrounded by loved ones. Inspired by Italian cuisine, particularly the art of crafting homemade pasta, our team of two fellow students and myself embarked on a transformative 6-week project to reimagine and design the pasta-making experience.
The result is a pasta maker that simplifies the process of changing pasta shapes, eliminating the need for cumbersome attachments or separate machines. We envisioned a rotating mechanism that allows users to easily switch between different pasta varieties with a simple turn of the dial.
