Walter Gropius, The Scope of Total Architecture
Gropius, the founder of the Bauhaus, wrote this book in English late in his life. There is certain rigidness palpable in his writing, but the book is a moving invocation for the case of human-centered modern architecture. Dry, yet idealistic, it is an essential contribution by one of the most renown contemporary architecture visionaries. As a display typeface, I chose FF Mark by Hannes van Dohren, in his own words, a very “germanetric” font. My main intention was to show tactility and friendliness of the Bauhaus approach to design, hence the cover on uncoated paper. As the text is somehow demanding, I decided to tease its most interesting fragments on chapter opening pages.
