BRIEF:
The brief was set by myself - a self directed study project, which had to highlight an ongoing/current issue we face in society. My outcome is be the solution to this issue which is visualised and discussed below.
In society today, there is still ongoing discussion and debate on who can and can't wear something based on their gender. Fast fashion is also still taking the lead in the fashion industry, since clothing is affordable for the 'Gen Z' target market. This is understandable however, it is not beneficial for our environment or for the people that make these garments in poor working conditions.
IDEAS/PROJECT JOURNEY:
Since I have a big passion for branding, design and fashion and saving the environment, I wanted to create an eco friendly gender neutral fashion brand. The aim is to stop gender stereotypes, whilst causing minimal harm to our environment and being able to stay on top of trends at the same time. It is also affordable and made in a sustainable way meaning you can look good, whilst knowing you are doing good too.
My eco friendly gender neutral brand, aims to encourage the young generation (Gen Z) or anyone interested in fashion to stop purchasing from fast fashion brands. It is beneficial for our planet since the fact it is also 'gender neutral' which means less energy, water, textiles and dye is used to create garments so it is most ethical. Also from the production of the clothing labels which are printed on coatless and Kraft paper made from post consumer waste using minimal energy and materials, and sourced from sustainable wood/easily recyclable. Unlike majority of high priced fashion brands which create tons of textile waste and are made in the least environmentally friendly way.
2TRU is an inclusive brand made from reused, and recycled/sustainable materials. My brand is both gender neutral and carbon neutral (best of both worlds). One size also fits all, any body shape/adapts with you. Clothing for all genders is an ethical rejection of gender and capitalism - rooting to yourself and the planet. By wearing 2TRU not only are you staying true to yourself but also the planet and environment we live in. This is also how I came up with name for my brand - wearing this means you are staying true to yourself, being yourself and being part of an inclusive and dynamic generation.
