Yoga, Mindfulness and Nature
This book is about a young boy who is learning to manage and identify his emotions through the help of different yoga poses. The book helps the reader learn to connect with their emotions and body to help gain mastery over their physical and emotional responses to life.
I really enjoyed illustrating this book as it talks about one of my favourite things; yoga! Breathing, stretching and slowing down twice a week helps me to focus and stay calm during the rest of the week too. So when the opportunity came around to teach kids about this wonderful form of mind and body exercise, I jumped at the chance.
I had fun drawing all of the poses and all of the animals and their environments. I wanted to give our main character a colourful world to live in, so I researched plant, animal and birdlife that can be found in Southern Africa, since I live in South Africa myself and I love to put our beautiful country and continent on display. In the book you can find the Cape honeysuckle and Agapanthus plants, the Elegant grasshopper and the Ox-eyed pansy butterfly, the African Hoopoe and the Southern masked weaver, the African clawless otter and the Cape cobra, among others.
