This collection of images above shows the different passes we use to reach our final outcome. Starting from the top we have Ambient Occlusion, Material ID & our Raw Render pass. These three passes are the three fundamental passes that every CG artist would produce along with many others to define their specific outcome. By overlaying our Material ID pass, we are able to finely select surfaces, textures and faces individually in the post-production stage and edit them without actually effecting any layer. This saves us from using lasso tools and hand cutting our image. The Material ID pass saves a mammoth amount of time when working on post-production images for tight deadlines. To add depth and ambiance we simply blend our Ambient Occlusion pass and play with the blend options in Photoshop, we often choose something similar to multiply or overlay and then fiddle with our opacity bar for fantastic results.
