Speedstac is a modular construction system developed by Sparkbird that allows for rapid and efficient construction of buildings using prefabricated modules. The modules are designed as self-contained rooms with built-in electrical and plumbing services, making them easy to “transplant” into existing building infrastructure. The use of modern materials, such as high-performance concrete, can reduce the weight of the modules, making them easier to lift and move using conventional crane equipment. Using a robust locking mechanism, several modules can be securely fastened and unfastened as needed – producing an adaptive modular housing solution. The Speedstac system offers an innovative solution to the challenges of traditional construction methods, enabling faster, more flexible, and more sustainable building projects.
The building incorporates a blend of two distinct construction techniques: prefabricated Speedstack modules and an external perimeter constructed with precast concrete elements.
This exterior design serves a dual purpose: it effectively mitigates unwanted heat gain and limits excessive sunlight penetration. Achieving this balance is made possible through the combination of shading devices and deep, horizontally-oriented concrete canopies, ensuring optimal temperature control to prevent the building from overheating. These canopies are planted around the perimeter to form a thin green facade that filters in daylight.
In line with the principles of sustainable architecture, the adaptable nature of this perimeter structure allows for a flexible interior floor plan that can evolve over time to accommodate varying needs and uses, promoting the building's long-term sustainability. Furthermore, the use of precast concrete panels for both interior and exterior walls is an environmentally conscious choice that minimizes construction waste and reduces construction timelines.
