A little while ago I had the opportunity to work with a real company in a class contest through my school. The company was RoomMates--a division of York Wallcoverings--and they create peel and stick wall decals, which are essentially a new way of decorating your house without it having to be a permanent fixture. You can take the decals off and move them or rearrange them without any hassle. The goal of the RoomMates contest was to win by creating new decal designs that could be sold from their store in the event that they enjoyed the design, and they judged these concepts along with our final presentations to announce a first, second, and third place winner for their contest. Thanks to hard work and a ton of brainstorming, I was able to come up with the ideas you see below, and win the contest. What you will be viewing is their packaging mocked-up with my decals and the sheet the decals would actually be found on when you open the packaging. Additionally, I got the chance to utilize some of my own photography for this project, mixed in with a few stock images. The first idea I thought of for this was glow in the dark fireflies and the second idea was dry erase newspaper fronts that also act as picture frames for personal photos.

The two designs I chose from the many thumbnails I did for the firefly concept. One is very organic and flowing, the other is more modern and edgy.

The packaging shows the concepts coming to life on interior walls. You have the ability to rearrange the pieces, which you can see from the following image shows how a customer would find the decals straight from the packaging.

These are a few of the newspaper thumbnails I incorporated in the second design; offering several of the dry erase frames. I enjoy this concept a lot because it encourages children to get into photography and writing.
