Print / Decât o Revistă

Print project made for Decât o Revistă, one of Romania's most celebrated magazines, which combats all bad whims and trends of Romanian society, culture, language and media (its name itself being a ironical reference to the misuse of the word 'decât' in regular language).

The job was to conceive illustrations for an issue's article about the misuse of the word 'decât', a word correctly used only after a negative particle - as similar to 'but' ('but a story' incorrect; 'nothing but a story' correct). The word's popular misuse has spread so much that for a couple of years it's replaced the previous most popular incorrectly misused word, 'deci' ('so'). The situation is comparable to such English words as 'whatever' or 'like'.

The print below presents the genealogy of 'decât'.
