SLAVIJA SQUARE STUDY / Belgrade
Studio Project / Master studies - Fall semester 2007
It was a bit of a study, actually...

Slavija Square 2001-2007

First, I realised that there were just so many empty spaces. Then I tried to do it right.

But, then I went back to those empty spaces...
... and it all came down to one simple idea: at first, the streets were just an empty space between houses which we used to communicate. But now, first we lay down the street network and houses... And then...
So, I analysed the structure and took all the buildings that had no value and removed them. Then I looked at all those new open spaces that I got and tried to imagine the best paths, the paths of the greatest value for pedestrians. And then, when I found them...
... I just layed them out there.
And I built around and above them...
Until it was complete.
As I said - it was a study, there were parameters.
But, in the end, it came down to the built environment, and empty spaces, and people staying in them, and people going from one place to another.
