Title Sequence
This project commissioned by the National Film School asked for the design and creation of a title sequence to accompany a recent graduate short film, as well as additional promotional materials including a poster and dvd box.
My assigned short film revolved around a struggling writer who rents a house in the countryside to finish his latest novel. He eventually encounters an old tree in the adjacent forest, which when he tries to cut it down, comes to life and attacks him, eventually eating him alive.
I wanted my titles to evoke the dark and foreboding nature of the film’s plot and focused on the idea of presenting the everyday tree as something more sinister. Using photography and a range of found materials and textures, I simulated a journey into the tree, down to a microscopic level where the dark nature of the tree is revealed.
