Flipping Fillet Knife 3D Modelling Work (and promos)

"The Flipping Fillet" knife weapon for Team Fortress 2 (3D model, textures, and promotional material)

Summary of creation process

This next personal project is my 4th project utilizing 3D modeling. After my first few 3D modelling projects, I managed to rack up around 180 hours in Blender at the time of the attemption of this project. This project gave me a clear insight into different techniques used by 3D modellers. For example, before this, I had attempted only to create cosmetical hat items that would attach to the playermodels singular bones. However, this time I wanted to create a weapon item instead, meaning it would appear in first person and have different functions other than just jiggle physics (jiggle physics meaning they move with motion). I assumed this would be as simple as attaching the model to the individual bones of the stock in-game butterfly knife. I was wrong, and spent a week self teaching myself how to connect a singular mesh using vertexs so that the model would move as intended during animations, as well as getting it to correctly work in-game.

You see, I assumed the process would be as simple as having each movable part seperate and then connecting said part up to the required bone. This was not the case for weapons in Team Fortress 2. I needed to make the whole model as just one object, then select the parts I want movable by selecting the faces then connecting them up to the specific vertex name. This was a major headache since I needed to learn entirely new processes to get the model working in-game with little to no help from any online sources, one example being compling qc files. qc files are basically layed out specific lines of text that give the models its own properties, aka, it's not my forte.

With this project, I have shown myself that I am capable of overcoming complex problems that may occur within creative projects. I am very proud of the final outcome and believe it to show my creative potential with working in creative fields that I have little to no prior experience in.
