CONCEPT
Il tema di questo progetto e dei manifesti che andrò a creare sarà il BLACK LIVES MATTER, il movimento attivista internazionale, originato all’interno della comunità afroamericana, impegnato nella lotta contro il razzismo. Le immagini inserite a cui mi sono ispirata cercano di mettere in risalto dei sentimenti come per esempio l’oppressione, l’ansia o il senso di comunità. L’intento è quello di riuscire a far provare le emozioni di queste vittime.
The theme of this project and the posters I'm going to create will be BLACK LIVES MATTER, the international activist movement, originating within the African-American community, engaged in the fight against racism. The inserted images that inspired me try to highlight feelings such as oppression, anxiety or a sense of community. The intent is to be able to make these victims feel the emotions.
Black Lives Matter organizza regolarmente delle manifestazioni per protestare apertamente contro gli omicidi delle persone nere da parte della polizia, nonché contro questioni più estese come profilazione razziale, brutalità della polizia e disuguaglianza razziale nel sistema giuridico degli Stati Uniti. Sono state riprese alcune foto di queste manifestazioni per poter in seguito estrapolare delle informazioni e delle idee utili per il progetto.
Black Lives Matter holds regular rallies to openly protest police killings of Black people, as well as broader issues such as racial profiling, police brutality, and racial inequality in the United States legal system. Some photos of these events were taken in order to later extrapolate useful information and ideas for the project.
Come possiamo vedere, la cosa che accomuna tutte le foto, ma soprattutto le manifestazioni, sono gli slogan. Ho quindi voluto riprendere 4 slogan più importanti e utilizzati da inserire all’interno dei poster.
As we can see, the thing that unites all the photos, but above all the demonstrations, are the slogans. So I wanted to take back 4 most important and used slogans to be included in the posters.

In memoria dell’ultimo momento di George Floyd, questo manifesto si sviluppa su più livelli. In primo piano abbiamo la scritta nera “I CAN’T BREATHE”: essa da forza all’immagine e proietta l’osservatore verso la crudele vicenda accaduta negli Stati Uniti. In secondo piano, inserita all’interno del font, abbiamo l’immagine sfocata di un poliziotto rafforzato da un’altra immagine posta sopra. In fine, sullo sfondo, la stessa immagine del poliziotto, ma con l’opacità quasi al minimo, in modo da creare quel senso di offuscamento della vista che capita quando perdi i sensi. Il tutto è coperto da un retino che rende l’immagine più grezza.
In memory of George Floyd's last moment, this manifesto is spread over several levels. In the foreground we have the black writing "I CAN'T BREATHE": it gives strength to the image and projects the observer towards the cruel story that took place in the United States. In the background, inserted within the font, we have the blurred image of a policeman reinforced by another image placed above. Finally, in the background, the same image of the policeman, but with the opacity almost at a minimum, in order to create that sense of blurred vision that happens when you pass out. Everything is covered by a halftone screen which makes the image rougher.

2. AM I NEXT?
Si dice che a volte uno sguardo vale più di mille parole. Gli occhi rassegnati di questo soggetto urlano paura: “SONO IO LA PROSSIMA VITTIMA?”

It is said that sometimes a look is worth a thousand words. This subject's resigned eyes scream in fear: "AM I THE NEXT VICTIM?"

3. SILENCE IS BETRAYAL
Il più grande complice della violenza è il silenzio, un silenzio che ogni anno è capace di uccidere o causare invalidità permanenti più di quanto possano fare malattie e incidenti. La violenza è un cancro sociale che non conosce confini né status sociali, può colpire chiunque, che tu sia una persona comune o una celebrità, per sconfiggerlo bisogna usare l’antidoto della cultura, educando e sensibilizzando i giovani al rispetto e alla parità.
Volevo creare un qualcosa che rimandasse al senso di unità e comunità, utilizzando una texture e un font che crei un legame tra le persone.

The greatest accomplice of violence is silence, a silence that every year is capable of killing or causing permanent disability more than disease and accidents can. Violence is a social cancer that knows no boundaries or social status, it can affect anyone, whether you are an ordinary person or a celebrity, to defeat it you need to use the antidote of culture, educating and sensitizing young people to respect and equality.

4. SAY THEIR NAMES
Un manifesto per non dimenticare tutte le vittime di razzismo. Sono delle persone che avevano una famiglia, amici e soprattutto un nome, un’identità.
Il pugno chiuso è il simbolo del movimento “Black Lives Matter”, quindi era quasi un dovere inserirlo per questo poster commemorativo. Posta centrale, sopra l’icona del BLM, c’è la scritta “SAY THEIR NAMES” e intorno ad essa si sviluppano le scritte con i nomi di alcune vittime. Le scritte in font calligrafico sembrano delle firme, a simboleggiare l’idea che quelle persone sono passate di qua e hanno lasciato il loro segno.
A manifesto not to forget all the victims of racism. They are people who had a family, friends and above all a name, an identity.
The clenched fist is the symbol of the "Black Lives Matter" movement, so it was almost a must to include it for this commemorative poster. Centrally placed, above the BLM icon, there is the writing "SAY THEIR NAMES" and around it the writings with the names of some victims develop. The writings in calligraphic font look like signatures, to symbolize the idea that those people have passed through here and left their mark.
