Hartmann's Mountain Zebras VS Grevy's Zebra
HMZ- Thicker head, wide stripes, dewlap, white belly, leg stripes tend to stay even sized all the way down, stripes on rump very wide and angled with curvature of rump.
GZ- long narrow head, lots of thinner stripes, no dewlap, white belly, leg stripes tend to clump up and pasterns become mostly if not entirely black, very wide dorsal stripes. Grevy's are the most endagered type of zebra. Largest type.
Not pictured- Plains zebra (Grant's, Burchell's, Selous', Chapman's, Crawshay's) & Cape Mountain Zebra. No hybrids or extinct types (quagga.)
Plains zebras are the most common typep of zebra. Their stripes extend onto their belly unlike Mountain or Grevy's. Patterns resemble mountain types. No dewlaps. Shadow stripes are common.
Photos taken May 17-18, 2014 at Fossil Rim in Glen Rose, TX during a photography workshop.
I aim to find and photograph all types of living zebras and hybrids.
