CREATIVE PROJECT;
The requirement for this project was to pick one of the four researched topics, interpret them in your own way and come up with a final piece for the year. The point of it was to self-direct a response to a brief, from inception to communication of outcomes.
Each year The Lighthouse Gallery holds an exhibition that aims to promote new artists and designers from all areas within the art and design industry; this is an opportunity for creatives to display their work to potential employers and creative industry professionals from a wide range of sectors. This year the exhibition is titled Insight, and new practitioners have been asked to explore and develop ideas for creative art, design or media work relating to one of the following themes:
- Flora and Fauna
- Oddities and Curiosities
- Deconstruct/ Reconstruct
- Internal/ External
FINAL PIECE;
My final projectis a torso of a person that has been mutilated and cut open to show the insides. It is heavily inspired by the show; “Hannibal”. It is an American psychological thriller-horror television series developed by Bryan Fuller for NBC. The work that I have done was inspired by a murder betrayed in the show, where a man is shown to have his insides cut open and flowers and wildlife has grown inside. There are four of the five vital organs (that you need to stay alive with) illustrated including fake wildflowers as well. The organs and flowers were placed inside with wire and hot glue by hand. I did not have a specific and definite meaning behind my piece, as I wanted the audience/viewers to interpret it by themselves because I think that is very important with art.
normally where wildflowers grow, it is completely without human intervention. They have several symbolic meanings including happiness, joy, and remembrance. Wildflowers are also a welcome sign of spring and summer. They can represent strength and perseverance in the face of adversity. Others are linked with healing, renewal, and the circle of life. In addition, that symbolism is extremely important to my artwork considering those flowers have “grown” inside a human body. <3
