HUMAN ACT!

is a street art festival that joined forces with International Amnesty to propagate urban art and touch people to a set of questions relating human rights.

This is a student project completed in my last year at the University of Fine Arts in Lisbon where it was propose to us the creation of “something” representing the Human Rights Letter.

In a language supported on the same assumptions, both Amnesty and Urban Art are seeking power in their images and words to create maximum impact to the public. Always with an extremely ambitious work, both are aware of the power that a message may have to pass if done in the right way.

The Human Rights Letter will provide a focus for this project .Although nowadays it’s available and accessible to all, it seems that it was forgotten or even denied by some.

Thus, this festival serves to remind the thirty articles presented there. The aim is to show that even in difficult times there is hope to live in a country that is fair and where each of us can claim their freedom.

The artists will work on various walls of Lisbon throughout the festival, allowing open participation of the beholders.

This festival also features a set of OpenTalks that foster dialogue and proliferation of ideas supported in the current projects of artists and their role as mediators of messages.

After that, the public can enrol in workshops where they will be in direct contact with the artists and learn a little bit more about the techniques they use as well as some tips and tricks.
