Branding- Museum of Mathematics

Project

The goal of the project was to focus on the development of a corporate identity and branding for any company. I chose Museum of Mathematics. The Museum of Mathematics is located in downtown Manhattan. It is the only Museum in United States dedicated to mathematics and making experience of mathematics fun and interactive.

“We want to show a different side of mathematics,” says museum co-founder Cindy Lawrence. “Our goal is to get kids excited, and show them the math they’re doing in school is just one tree in a whole huge forest.”

MoMath exhibits take abstract concepts like number theory and topology and let you put your hands and even feet all over them.

Process

My goal in rebranding Museum of Mathematics was to bring the unique, dynamic concept of the museum using a bold visual vocabulary. I wanted the indentity to be playful and bring back the idea that math is something that exists everywhere in nature and in every form around us. I experimented with fractals and patterns in nature, even with the basic shapes that will give a visual impression of addition or subtraction. The new identity I have created for the museum is inspired from Fibonacci Spiral which defines  the proportions everywhere in the nature. Using this ispiration, I designed the logo, logo Animation, stationary, promotional materials, tickets and website.

Ticket Design

Every ticket is designed to be a piece of puzzle. The idea behind the design was to encourage interaction between the visitors which are mostly kids. This would help them interact and dicover new things about the world of mathematics. This incomplete piece of puzzle on sombody’s wall would later become a piece of coversation about the museum while keeping the kids curious about their next visit.

Newsletter
This newsletter for museum of mathematics is designed like an orgami fortune teller. With this design I wanted to make experience of reading a newsletter playful and fun while being informative. It also allows children to understand the dimensions. By the process of folding and unfloding they can experience how two-dimensional forms are translated to three dimensional objects and furthercreate wall art from it.
