For this assignment we had to design a logo and different media expressions for an attraction of a random fairy tale. My fairy tale was sleeping beauty.
Restrictions in all the designs:
Only use elements of your logo and wordmark.
Don't use more than 3 colors. (not counting black & white)

Mood- and styleboards
I started with a Moodboard for sleeping beauty herself but because our target audience is between 15 and 20 years old I didn't think she would be the best fit.
I eventually went with Maleficent as character for my attraction branding. It was a good fit for my target audience and had a very clear theme and style.
For the next step I had to choose what type of attraction I wanted for my fairy tale. I went ahead and wrote some words and things related to maleficent and thought about what type of attraction could fit best.
It was clear pretty fast that I wanted to use a Wing coaster as my attraction of choice because I found this one most fitting to the Maleficent fairy tale and the Efteling doesn't have a wing coaster yet.

Name research
After a lot of brainstorming I chose for the name "Donkere Fey" (Dark Fey).
It's the name of the species Maleficent is part of.

Font research
Logo design
For the logo I started by creating some of Maleficent's iconic trades like her horns or wings. Eventually I ended up with the outlined logo on the right which I really liked so I went ahead and designed it further in Illustrator.
I made a lot of different designs for the horns with thicker and thinner lines and different types of curves but I chose for the design in the middle because it looked the most balanced and slick.
For the actual logo I made different types of vatiations, adding stars, fire and other shapes. Once again the design in the middle is the one I eventually went with.
In total I designed around 30 different logos not counting different color usages.

We had to design two different media expressions, the first one was a Tote bag.

I went with a design that looked simple but which I thought was also effective.
Banner
For the banner I also chose for the simplest but most effective design and created a mockup for it. I thought it would be fun to change the sky into something that fit the theme so I added green lightning and Maleficent herself.

Reflection
I liked the project a lot, it was a project which had a lot of different possibilities.
At the start I didn't like the fairytale I got so that was a fun challenge as well.
Eventually, when I thought of making an attraction for Maleficent, I started to gain a lot more motivation and after that it didn't really take long to design the rest of the assignment.
