About
College Collages is a booklet created in Adobe InDesign then hand bound with thread. This booklet was inspired using collages from my personal sketchbooks. Collaging using magazine clippings has an creative outlet and form of meditation for me. I got into collaging in high school, I could be found in the art storage closet shifting through massive piles of abandoned magazines and ripping out pages and placing them into a folder for later use. I noticed that Collages helping me creative and mentally, so the start of my Junior Year, I started a ‘Art Therapy Club’, were once a week at lunch I would hold a club meeting and teach people how to collage and create a safe space to talk about mental health and good coping skills to improve mental health. This booklet is filled with the collages I created during my first year at college, and each page is paired with a quote from “WETHEURABAN” a black owned community outreach program made to spread self-love and empower marginalized voices.
Typography
Type for this project was handmade. Started with magazine letter clippings, then took into Adobe Illustrator and matched with color background and an Adobe Font. Each letter was its own illustration, so when creating the quotes, mixed and matched letters to form a sentience to create a ransom letter style type that matched the handmade and magazine feel of the booklet.
