Transgressing established boundaries and celebrating incongruity creates a different, heterogeneous and undisciplined world: the festival is often about appropriating diverse environments. Whether neglected, underused, undefined, banal, domestic or strictly functional - these spaces are conducive to a forward-looking and emancipatory drift, devoid of any known purpose. The visual concept of this 2023 edition, entitled La Fête du Festival Art Souterrain à Montréal, is based on this premise. A host of eclectic objects litter the ground, the result of a festival in its multiple manifestations that expresses, in turn, the forbidden, excess, the testing of the body and space-time. Everyday objects and festive accessories take on a colour of extreme saturation and are set in contrast with those made of cold metal to create an ensemble that is as equivocal as it is poetic.
