Egypt
I moved to Egypt , for nine months.
This piece was created after the first three months of experiencing , the new culture and relationship I was in.

For this artwork inspired in the ancient Egyptian art,
I drew myself flying on a carpet, with a powerful sun and my story told in hieroglyphics I created accordingly.
The work is done with mixed media on papyrus.
“ Holmiga Volando ”

This piece was created on my second trip to Egypt.

The figure is a part -human part-ant self portrait,
flying more comfortably on a carpet, as I was wishing to be.
In her back is a fascinating bird called hoopoe, a symbol of the magnificence and warmth I was experiencing in this new land.
“ Sol ”
A digital illustration inspired by the solar plexus, the confidence chakra.

After the honeymoon stage with my partner and the new country, some of the cultural barriers, compromise and personal traumas started taking a toll on my self esteem.

I had started a sketch back home of my grandma’s bathroom tiles which have a flower and a sun. After learning about the solar plexus, I came back to this sketch and designed it around how I felt and the parts of me tht were feeling more judged, like my tattoed skin. The figure is seating on a moon, since I was feeling so much closer and connected to her.
The color palette is inspired in the colors of cairo and the desert, and the signature ant has wings, since she was flying around and ready to fly again if needed.

This artwork was a call to trust and embrace everything I am.
” Green Guy ”
A calming energy with a funky style.

Digital work
For a while I felt very lost and confused. In order to navegate my emotions I started dancing, journaling and drawing intuitive figures on paper. These figures would become faces or any figurative image I saw in them.
In this process a lot of the emotions and thoughts I could not reach, became clear.

The one above represents the misunderstanding, separation and lack of freedom I was perceiving.

Separation
As the confussion continued, this drawing was created.
In my eyes I see myself as the small scared rock in the back,
My dad as the middle rock and my mom as the shape in front.

My partner wanted me to believe in the dream and stay optimistic
Still confused , I chose to stand by everything I am, light and shadow, and find how I could bloom.

Back Home, some of the pieces in process for my next show
A very important part of my process was having therapy sessions to go deeper into the roots of my fear, anger, pain…
One of my therapist once mentioned that every fall creates a scar that we then carry as the lines of a tiger. That idea inspired me to create the design above.
A sphinx like self portrait, wearing all her lines/ scars.
One of my first impressions of Egypt was the beauty of nature and the variety it has.

The drawing on top says We are part of something bigger, in spanish.
This idea came to me, seeing how similar we all are, aside of the religion and language, we are all human. Same humor, same warmth, same humanity. I guess it called more my attention since I had so much ignorance of what I would face and came to find I belonged like anywhere else.

Below are some sketches created during my stay.
Some of these designs were also tattooed
