#DVB302 Authors by the Book

This set of bookboxes is designed in proportion to data, taken from the top 6 most viewed books by each author on Goodreads.
The height of each book is proportionate to the average rating of each author. The width is proportionate to the average amount of reviews each author has (taken from the top 6 books).
These boxes create a three-dimensional bar graph, where width shows popularity and height shows quality (as determined by Goodreads).
There are five books for my five favourite classic authors: Jane Austen, Daphne Du Maurier, Charles Dickens, the Brontë sisters and Thomas Hardy.
The flowers on the boxes also contain data. Each petal represents a book by the chosen author. The height of the petal shows that book’s goodreads rating.
If a petal is white, it means that it is in the top 6 most-reviewed books by that author. If a petal on the back is coloured in, it means I have read it.
The boxes also open up, and inside each box is a bookmark.
These bookmarks break down the petals in a way that is easier to read. This makes comparing the work of a given author much easier.
The petals are kept blank, meaning that an owner could colour them in as they read through an author’s body of work.
There is one bookmark for each author. This also makes the difference in amount of work each author produced much more apparent.
Each bookmark also has the complete flower chart for each author on the back.
These bookbox sets are intended to be sold as gifts or accessories for readers who are into classic literature, and interested in exploring deeper into their favourite author’s body of work.
They are a fun, unique way of representing data in a visually interesting way.
